Created in 1946, the Edgar Awards, sponsored by Mystery Writers of America (MWA), are essentially the Oscars of the mystery genre. This year's winners included John Hart (Best Novel for Down River), Tana French (Best First Novel by an American for In the Woods), Megan Abbott (Best Paperback Original for Queenpin), and Tedd Arnold (Best Young Adult for Rat Life). Bill Pronzini was awarded Grand Master for his contributions to the genre; as Grand Master he joins the ranks of legends such as Agatha Christie, Graham Greene, and P. D. James.
